Cody Sheppard - Lifetime Achievement Award

Cody Sheppard was posthumoously honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.  Sheppard first came to Santa Fe as a student at St. John's College, and quickly gravitated to the mountains.  He began working at the ski area in 1971, and his roles soon included everthing from ticket sales and parking to grooming and snowmaking, before becoming a patrolman in 1973.  He became patrol director in 1981, and held the position until illness forced his retirement in 2016.  He succumbed to cancer in 2017.

 Daniel Gibson - Lifetime Achievement Award

Daniel Gibson received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his writing and reporting on the regional snowsports scene.  Over the past 30 years he has written more than 600 articles for his weekly winter column Snow Trax, dozens of articles for major magazines, and for numerous online publications, incuding On the Snow and GoWest.  He is also the author of a book on the state's skiing and snowboarding venues, titled Skiing New Mexico: A Guide to Snowsports in the Land of Enchantment (2017, from UNM Press), and is co-author with Jay Blackwood of a visual history titled Skiing in New Mexico, (2021, from Arcadia Publishing).  He lives in Santa Fe.

 Jay Blackwood - Distinguished Service Award

Jay Blackwood was presented with the first Distinguished Service Award.  Blackwood began working at Sandia Peak/La Madera Ski Area in 1962, serving as a lift operator and in the rental shop.  He went to work on the Sandia Peak Tram at its inception, first loading tram cars, checking tickets, and taking care of the building.  He rose to manager, a position he held for many years.  Today he also is the curator of the New Mexico Ski Museum.  He lives in Rio Rancho.
